In his behavioral health treatment modality, Conscious Recovery TI identifies the three root causes of addiction and mental health concerns as unresolved trauma, spiritual disconnection, and toxic shame. Within the LGBTQI+ community, most (if not every) client presenting to our programs and practices have experienced these issues.

Additionally, without recognizing it, many well-meaning clinicians, therapists, and counselors are bringing their own unresolved issues into their work with clients, and therefore projecting onto and holding unconscious biases about their clients that prevent them from being fully present and effective.

At this time in our evolution, we may need to ask ourselves what is required of us in order to help our clients and our community heal.
